From Genova through Cinque Terre, wonderful stretch of coast
protected by Unesco, up to Portovenere, charming village standing
on a rocky promontory in front of the island of Palmaria, plunged
in the smells and intense colours of Ligurian East coast. After
the visit to Genova, the most important Italian harbour and
also the city where Cristoforo Colombo was born, the
picturesque rack train to Casella will take you 300 m uphills with
beautiful sight over the gulf and over the fortresses at the back
of Genova. The first part of the tour involves some drops, but the
effort will be repayed by the landscape characterized by
small and ancient stone villages surrounded by olive groves. In Cicagna
there is an "ecomuseo" that lets you know the typical local stone,
the slate; by slate was builted in the XII century the Basilica dei Fieschi
in Cogorno. In the green Val Graveglia you can visit the
interesting
manganese mine of Gambatesa, still operative. At least you cycle
downhills to the sea reaching the beautiful Portovenere. If
you have time, you can take the boat and make an excursion to
the island of Palmaria.

day:
Levanto - Cinque Terre by boat and foot ; you'll visit all the 5
terre in a day by boat, return by foot (opzional) on the “Via
dell’Amore”

Levanto - Cinque
Terre - La Spezia (km 41 -
350 mt)

Typical
landscape of the Liguria with the hills: there are easy ups and
downs
From Levanto you go by boat to the 5 Terre (Monterosso, Vernazza,
Corniglia, Manarola, Riomaggiore) while visiting each country; the
return can be by boat or by foot on the path “via dell’Amore” and
continuing until Vernazza.
