Around Siena in Tuscany Cycling in the most beautiful italian region

An unforgettable tour in the italian region where many people coming from abroad for a visit have choosen to remain forever, enchanted by its sweet hilly landscapes, by its art treasures, by the refinement of its culture, its great wines and its delightful, country cuisine. This route conducts you through extraordinary valleys and territories like Val d’Elsa, Chianti (very famous for its wines), Val d’Arno, Val d’Orcia, Crete senesi, via Francigena (ancient route used for pilgrimages), among thick vineyards and wonderful hills. Cycling along pleasant minor roads in a continuous sweet ups and downs, you’ll pass through Certaldo, birthplace of the novelist Boccaccio, S. Gimignano with its one hundred towers, Volterra ancient and perfectly preserved medieval village on the top of a hill surrounded by a memorable landscape and, last but not least, Siena, with its marvellous Piazza del Campo, a round space where since many centuries the famous “Palio” takes place, its typical cathedral and the narrow medieval raods where the noble palaces overlook.  

1st day arrive to Siena ;  overnight in the town
2nd day Siena – Brolio – Castelnuovo Berardenga – Asciano km 48 – disl. 830 mt 
3rd day Asciano – Monte Oliveto – San Giovanni d’Asso - Pienza  km 52 – disl. 800 mt.
4th day Pienza – S.Quirico – Montalcino – Buonconvento – Murlo  km 55 - disl. 750 mt.
5th day  Murlo – Radi – Sovicille – Monteriggioni - Colle Val d’Elsa  km 56  - disl. 680 mt.
6th day  Colle Val d’Elsa – Casole d’ Elsa – Ulignano  - Volterra  km 48 - disl. 1110 mt.
7th day  Volterra – Il Castagno – San Gimignano – Certaldo- transfer by train to Siena  km 40 - disl. 600 mt.
8th day  Siena – end of  the tour.  

Typical landscape of the Tuscan countryside is the hill: the routes are almost always wavy, with easy ups and downs; only sometimes you find some steep slopes. Medium-easy, the route is predomenantly asphalted; the dirty routes are in good  conditions, there are 5 - 15 km of  dirty road every day
